Grizzly's and Drowning Phones

Hi Everyone! 4/17/17

We got back in contact with a less active member who was baptized a year ago and he came to church! We're so excited for him and desire to help him grow. We also have a new investigator, a man named Ari that the Bloomingdale Elders handed off to us. He doesn't know a lot and has so many questions which is so exciting! I just love people's natural curiosity, especially when it comes to the Gospel- we are all sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father and to watch peoples self discovery of their divine identity's is miraculous.

We finally "handed off" (Have the Elders in our area start teaching them instead of us) Phill and Lindsay which was hard but it was great! There was a lot of laughs- There was a moment where a spider was spotted on the wall. Elder Fry jumped to attention ready to squish it. In the chaos I kept trying to get to it first to pick it up and let it outside and yelled "DON'T KILL IT YA GRIZZLY!" the room went dead silent for a moment and than in the next everyone boomed laughing. It was hilarious but the spider still died. Oh well.

The Elders gave powerful testimonies. We taught about having faith in Jesus Christ, and the difference of hope and faith. Something interesting Elder Fia said about faith (paraphrasing) that "In the Christen world mistake belief with faith. Believing or accepting Christ in your life isn't enough. Faith in Christ means action- moving forward and trying your best to align your life with God's will." Both me and Sister Vescovi loved that. My favorite definition of hope is found in "True To The Faith":

"The word hope is sometimes misunderstood. In our everyday language, the word often has a hint of uncertainty. For example, we may say that we hope for a change in the weather or a visit from a friend. In the language of the gospel, however, the word hope is sure, unwavering, and active. Prophets speak of having a “firm hope” (Alma 34:41) and a “lively hope” (1 Peter 1:3). The prophet Moroni taught, “Whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God” (Ether 12:4).

When we have hope, we trust God’s promises. We have a quiet assurance that if we do “the works of righteousness,” we “shall receive [our] reward, even peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come” (D&C 59:23). Mormon taught that such hope comes only through the Atonement of Jesus Christ: “What is it that ye shall hope for? Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise” (Moroni 7:41)."

Me and Sister Vescovi have listened to talks given by John Bytheway non-stop. We love it and they are hilarious. My favorite and top recommendation is "Get An Attitude!"
Another thing that happened this week was our phone got dropped in the toilet.... the scenario played out similar to when the toilet exploded, with Sister Vescovi yelling "SISTER PETTY!!!!!"

I loved this Easter so much. I love this time of reflection on the Savior and His Resurrection. It's beautiful to think how the Resurrection is only a part of our salvation- our physical body is saved but it's only when we use the Atonement and continue to live his Gospel to the fullest that we're spiritually saved as well. I continue to try to remember my Savior and invite you all to as well. I love you!

Comic con and Facemasks

Hi everyone!      3/27/17

We invited John to be  baptized earlier this week and he said yes! He still has a lot of growing to do- it was more of asking him to have faith and to work towards baptism, but we're still excited. We also had a lesson with just him for the first time at a park because Kylie was at work. It was really eye opening and we learned so much more about him and his concerns although he still has been pretty with Kylie around. We're sad to now see him and Kylie go to the family ward so we will no longer be teaching them and Elder Fia and Fry will. They're amazing though, and we'll still see them around!

Last week we had the greatest exchanges with Hermana Craner and Hermana Gowens.  It was so much fun to work with then and they are amazing! I'll have to write more about it later!

Anyways, not too has much has happened this week because our teaching pool has recently been emptied. Kylie and John are moving into the family ward and we've been working with them the most other than with Hardik.

One day we had a appointment at the library that fell through bit we felt like we hit the gold mine! There was a COMIC CON going on there that we had no idea about.  We went back to our car and loaded  up will pamphlets and pass-along cards. We aren't allowed to proselyte at library's,  but if we get in a good conversation with shoshone and they ask than were allowed. Sister Vescovi knew full well that I'm a nerd and knew it was my time to shine. We didn't get any phone numbers but had some great conversations with booth vendors and gave cards to six of them. It was a blast! Sometimes I seriously believe I was made for this area.

It's been a tad discouraging trying to find, but we've already had a tender mercy in recieving two referrals. One was a media one sent from church had quarters,  and the other was from a stranger.  A man came in at the end of Sacrament Meeting who apparently used to come to the YSA branch and wanted to visit. He told us about his friend, Edwin, who's looking for a church and was interested in meeting us! It was such a blessing! He gave us his info and and we called his friend, and we set up an appointment for this Tuesday!

We have some fun ideas for finding we're excited to try out including easter eggs (I'll explain in the future) and setting up a booth on a college campus. We had a good contact with a man named Ravi.  We meet coming home and he was moving out that night. He said how he always wanted to come to a Christian church but didn't know if he would be welcomed.  We invited him to go and gave him a pass-along card and said that missionaries could help him move in wherever he's going.

Here's some long awaited baptism photos and photos!
